Ramamoorthy Rao Sir

My Guru and mentor Sri Ramamoorthy Rao hails from Udupi, Karnataka. He has studied Indian Classical music under Bharat Ratna Pt Bhimsen Joshi and MD Ramanathan. After completing his Masters in music from the University of Madras, he went on to learn Hindustani Classical music from Pt Bhimsen Joshi for several years. He completed his Masters in Hindustani Classical music from the Benaras University and came back to Madras to dedicate his life towards teaching music.

I started learning from Ramamoorthy Rao Sir from 2003, and for the last ten years, he has been teaching me both, Hindustani as well as Carnatic Classical music. He is very particular about voice culture and the correct technique to sing. He has very lucidly taught me the essence of classical music, which has made me realise that it is indeed the richest and most intense musical traditions in the world. I consider myself very lucky to be learning from him. He has composed several songs under his "mudrai" Krishnadasa.

He is one of the most sought after music teachers in Madras and his list of students is endless. He is known for showering his affection over all his students, treating all of us nothing less than his own children. I am sure my fellow/ brother/ sister disciples will agree with me about how lucky we feel to have his benevolence in our lives.
